Seixal, Madeira's Hidden Gem with a Touch of Hawaii

Seixal, Madeira's Hidden Gem with a Touch of Hawaii

Seixal Beach is a stunning natural gem with beautiful volcanic sand beach, clear waters and astonishing cliffs. The beach is surrounded by lush greenery, adding to its mystique. The dark volcanic pebbles contrast beautifully with the crystal-clear turquoise waters of the Atlantic Ocean, making it a stunning place to visit.

I first visited Seixal Beach 2 years ago, during a packed day trip around the island, when we only had time to take a few photos, so we didn't really get to enjoy it.

I returned a few week back, on a Saturday, because I already thought it was an incredible beach. And although it was a cloudy day, the feelings experienced there cannot be described into words…

I really felt why many compare it to ‘Hawaii’. The lush mountains and steep cliffs in the backdrop and the black sand truly makes it epic.

Here's some travel information about Seixal Beach:

Location: Seixal Beach is situated in the small town of Seixal, on the northern coast of Madeira. It is approximately 50 kilometers from the capital city, Funchal, which is about a 50 minutes drive. The journey provides a scenic ride, allowing you to enjoy the breathtaking landscapes of Madeira.

Peaceful Atmosphere: Seixal Beach is less crowded than many other popular beaches in Madeira, offering a more peaceful and relaxed ambiance. It is an ideal spot for those seeking tranquility and a connection with nature.

Beach: What makes Seixal Beach unique is its special geology. It has dark volcanic sand and the tall cliffs around it are telling the story of how Madeira was formed through repeated volcanic eruptions millions of years ago (for more information check "Born from Fire and Sea" in History Bites section).

Natural Pools: Besides the main beach area, Seixal boasts some natural swimming pools carved out of volcanic rocks. These pools offer a safe and refreshing place to take a dip while enjoying the spectacular ocean views.
